Almond Bud Day Nursery

Nurture, grow, achieve

Curriculum

At Almond Bud Nursery, our curriculum is structured to give the children the skills and knowledge that they need to explore and understand the world around them.

We know that children grow and develop when they have a well thought out learning environment.

In our indoor and outdoor areas, we deliver the same opportunity for teaching and learning through both adult and child led opportunities.

We promote the importance of knowledge and skills that will support children in all areas, so that they can make the most of opportunities, fulfil their potential and develop their independence.

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage and guidance from Development Matters to accomplish these goals.

The principles which guide our Early Years Professionals are separated into four themes:

    • A unique child – every child is a competent leaner from birth who can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured.
    • Positive Relationships – children learn to be strong and independent from a base of loving and secure relationships with parents and/or key person.
    • Enabling Environments – the environment plays a key role in supporting and extending children’s development and learning.
    • Learning and Development – children develop and learn in different ways and at different times; all areas of learning and development are equally important and inter-connected.

There are seven areas of Learning and Development split into:

Prime areas of learning

    • Personal, social, and emotional development
    • Communication and language development
    • Physical development

Specific areas of learning

    • Literacy
    • Mathematics
    • Understanding the world
    • Expressive art and design

When thinking of the children and how to plan for them, we take into consideration the Characteristics of Effective learning, which are:

    • Playing and Exploring
    • Active learning
    • Creating and thinking Critically
